Public Hearings

The Pace Public Process

Pace takes pride in its extensive process for communicating with the public. In addition to public hearings that are required for any significant changes in service or fares, Pace offers numerous ways to share comments and ideas.

Public Forums

Public Forums are held primarily for general discussion of proposals and ideas. They are often held in conjunction with a planning initiative and usually consist of a presentation followed by interactive sessions where people can converse with Pace staff and jot down their comments on the material presented. Information obtained through Public Forums helps to plan and redesign services.

Public Meetings

Public meetings can cover a wide variety of topics and issues. This format was used to introduce Pace when the agency took on services previously provided for persons with disabilities in the City of Chicago. At times they may be held to supplement or expand upon the discussion at hearings or forums. Information gathered at public meetings may influence Pace decisions or shape customer policies.

Public Hearings

Public hearings are required for any change in Pace fares or service that is determined to impact more than 25% of a Pace route or ridership base. They are usually the final step in the public process before decisions are made on fare adjustments or service eliminations or reductions. Public Hearings are also held annually on the upcoming budget and capital program. Comments recorded at hearings are documented for review by the Pace Board before taking action on issues addressed at the hearing.

Notices on all Pace forums, meetings and hearings are posted on this webpage, displayed on buses and provided to the media. Updates on public forums and meetings are also posted to our website on the relevant project pages.
