The governing body of Pace, the Suburban Bus Division of the RTA, is a Board consisting of thirteen directors. Six directors are appointed by the suburban members of the Cook County Board of Commissioners, representing the six suburban regions as defined in the RTA Act. Five directors are appointed, one each, by the Chairmen of DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will counties. One director is the Commissioner of the Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities for the City of Chicago. The Chairman of the Pace Board is appointed by a majority of the Chairmen of the DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will County Boards and the suburban members of the Cook County Board of Commissioners.
Each Board member, with the exception of the Commissioner of the Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities, must be a Mayor or Village President from his/her respective region, or a former Mayor or Village President residing in his/her respective region. The Board members serve a four-year term.
