ReVision: Our Network Restructuring

Project

Travel patterns have changed, and Pace is changing with them. We are reimagining our system and we need your input to help shape the future of suburban transit in northeastern Illinois.

The ReVision project is designed to serve as a living service plan and performance benchmark—one that can be evaluated, adjusted, and ultimately incorporated into NITA’s future regional service plans. Its flexible design allows ReVision to remain relevant and responsive as new standards, metrics, and policies are introduced by NITA, providing a strong foundation for ongoing and future transit planning efforts. Pace’s ReVision project is complemented by CTA’s Bus Vision Project and Metra’s Systemwide Network Plan.

What is the Pace ReVision plan?

ReVision is Pace’s strategic planning initiative to redesign our bus and On Demand service network in response to our region’s changing needs. It reflects our commitment to building a transit system that aligns with current travel patterns, supports regional growth, and delivers better service to riders. The initiative is grounded in the values of accessibility, equity, and productivity outlined in the Driving Innovation strategic plan.

Objectives

As our region emerges from the pandemic, we recognize that travel patterns have changed, and Pace needs to adjust to meet the needs of today’s and tomorrow’s society. We plan to modernize our service offerings to continue being a good steward of taxpayer resources while maximizing access to jobs, education, medical services, and other destinations.

Process and Timeline

The Pace team has spent months analyzing existing services, demographic and travel trends, and gathering public input. This work culminated in the release of three network concepts in late 2024, each offering a different vision for where and how often Pace routes should run, and what types of service are best suited for different parts of the region. These concepts highlighted key trade-offs - such as ridership versus coverage - and showed what could be possible with additional investment.

While we are evaluating the information we collected and developing the Draft Plan, you still have an opportunity to tell us what you think by sending us an email at revision@pacebus.com.

To date, the project team has:

  • Analyzed existing transit services, and relevant demographic and travel patterns.
  • Developed and presented future network concepts, to illustrate both key trade-offs (such as the ridership vs. coverage trade-off) and the opportunities that could be opened up with new funding.
  • Conducted a survey, hosted open houses, and met with stakeholders to gauge opinions about the Network Concepts released in November 2024.

The next steps in the project are to:

  • Create a Draft Plan for service improvements by incorporating the feedback gathered from the public and stakeholders on the proposed network concepts for release at a future to be determined date.
  • Coordinate with the future NITA to incorporate Pace's Draft Plan into the regional service plan.
  • Gather public and stakeholder feedback on the Draft Plan and incorporate the feedback to develop a Final Plan.

We want to hear from you!

Share your thoughts or ideas for improving the transit network by emailing revision@pacebus.com.

Pace is continuing to seek input from riders, former riders, employers, advocates, and community leaders to help shape a more efficient, equitable, and environmentally responsible transit system across the six counties we serve. Your feedback will help us identify opportunities to improve service - such as increasing bus frequency, adjusting routes, adding new stops, or introducing mobility options in underserved areas.

Help us design a more responsive, rider-focused system for the future.

What does this plan mean for me?

Redesigning our bus network will lead to more accessible, convenient, and connected service for current and future riders. With improved routes, expanded hours, and better connectivity, more people will have access to reliable, affordable transit options that support their daily lives.

How do I get involved?

Your input is essential to shaping Pace’s future. We want to hear where service can better meet your needs—now and in the years ahead. Here’s how you can stay engaged:
