CTA, Metra, and Pace Encourage Passengers to Say “Thank You!” to Rail and Bus Operators on Transit Employee Appreciation Day 2024

Press Release

Date Issued
Fri, 03/15/2024

Get on board with Chicago’s transit agencies on March 18:  Showing appreciation to the region’s transit workers by using #TEAD

On Monday, March 18, Chicago’s three regional transit agencies—the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), Metra, and Pace Suburban Bus— ask riders and the general public to join them in celebrating Transit Employee Appreciation Day (TEAD). The most effective and appreciative method to do that is to simply say “Thank you!” to your bus and rail operators and other essential transit workers who keep our system moving safely and smoothly day after day.

“Regardless of whether you ride our buses or trains, everyone in Chicagoland is encouraged to take a moment to thank any of the thousands of transit employees who work on the front lines or behind the scenes to keep our region moving,” said CTA President Dorval R. Carter, Jr. “Our transit system is an integral part of our city and region and recognized the world over, attracting and serving millions of riders while connecting them to their homes, businesses and cultural destinations. We encourage everyone to share their appreciation with our transit workers by saying “thank you” and using hash tag #TEAD tag to express your appreciation for their hard work and dedication.”

“I encourage all Chicago area residents to express their thanks to the dedicated men and women who operate or support public transportation,” said Metra Executive Director/CEO Jim Derwinski. “This is their day to be recognized for the key role they plan in Chicago’s transportation network and economy.”

"Celebrating Transit Employee Appreciation Day is more than just recognizing the hard work and dedication of our transit staff; it's about honoring the backbone of our region’s economy and providing access for all. Transit employees ensure that communities stay connected, businesses thrive, and individuals reach their destinations safely and reliably,” said Pace Executive Director Melinda Metzger. “Today, we express our gratitude for their role in keeping our region moving. We hope you will, too!"

In celebration of Transit Employee Appreciation Day, transit riders are encouraged to share their support and gratitude any of the following ways:

  • Wave or provide an in-person greeting,
  • Post a “shout-out” on social media channels using the hashtag #TEAD, or
  • Offer praise to a particular employee by submitting a commendation online or by calling the respective transit agency:
    • CTA: 888-YOUR-CTA or transitchicago.com/feedback/
    • Metra: 312-322-6777 or metra.com/contact-us
    • Pace: 847-364-7223, option 3, or https://www.pacebus.com/submitcomments

The region’s three transit agencies placed their highest priority on providing the safest, healthiest environment for customers and employees. Now, as the agencies work to revitalize and strengthen our region’s transit network, they acknowledge and commend the essential work public transportation employees do every day to serve our region.
