Transfers
A rider who boards a bus or train and then boards a second bus or train within two hours pays a discounted “transfer” fare on the second boarding. The transfer is only available when paying by transit value with your Ventra Card. The correct amount will automatically be deducted from your Ventra account when tapping on the second bus or train; there is nothing to show the bus operator. Transfers are not available to riders paying a cash fare.
The information below applies to the first transfer made by a rider. The rider's second transfer is always free. There is no “third transfer”; in that case, the rider pays full fare.

From ADA Paratransit
This paratransit service is required by the federal Americans with Disabilities Act and is provided for customers whose disability or health condition prevents them from using Pace, Metra or CTA fixed route services for some or all of their travel.
Only persons who are certified by the Regional Transportation Authority are eligible to ride ADA Paratransit.
In addition to paying by cash or with the one-ride ticket, Paratransit riders can pay for rides through Ventra. While you're not required to use that method, this option benefits you by no longer requiring you to carry exact change or buy paper tickets. Learn how to get your account set up here.
ADA paratransit tickets are not yet sold through Ventra; however, booklets of 10 tickets can be purchased for $32.50 at Pace's online store, at select retailers or through Pace's Ticket-by-Mail program.
Ride free or reduced fare programs are not applicable for ADA paratransit trips.
With ADA Certified Riders - Free Fixed Route Fare Program
As of February 19, 2024, ADA Paratransit riders with disabilities who are certified for ADA Paratransit by the RTA can ride for free on Pace fixed route buses.
Did you know that all of Pace’s fixed route buses are fully accessible for seniors and riders with disabilities? These routes can connect you to train stations, schools, hospitals, jobs, and other important destinations throughout the suburbs, and don’t require a reservation to ride.
Pace’s fixed route buses feature ramps, dedicated seating areas, audio and visual stop announcements, and other accessibility features. Certified ADA Paratransit customers can now ride these fixed route buses for free!
PLEASE NOTE: To ensure your ride is free, DON’T tap your ADA Paratransit card on the Ventra reader. Simply SHOW your card to the driver when you board.
Pace On Demand, Pace Connect, ADA Paratransit, Taxi Access Program (TAP) and DuPage Uber trips are NOT included in the free fare program.
Also, this free fare program does not cover CTA or Metra; however, ADA certified riders can still ride CTA, Metra and Pace's On Demand services at a reduced rate.
From Taxi Access Program (TAP)
Riders who are certified for ADA can use Pace's Taxi Access Program (TAP) for trips that begin in the City of Chicago.
TAP allows ADA Paratransit riders immediate access to a Chicago taxi to meet their transportation needs and is an excellent alternative to riding ADA Paratransit when feasible.
The TAP program is less expensive than paratransit and often more convenient because rides do not have to be scheduled the day before. Click here to add funds to your TAP card.
From Rideshare Access Program (RAP)
Riders who are certified for ADA can choose to use Pace's Rideshare Access Program (RAP) as an alternative to paratransit vehicles.
RAP allows ADA Paratransit riders immediate access to Uber or UZURV|The Adaptive Transportation Network Company rides to meet their transportation needs and is an excellent alternative to riding ADA Paratransit when feasible.
RAP is also less expensive than paratransit and often more convenient because rides do not have to be scheduled the day before.
