Our partnerships with several local colleges remove any financial barriers for those interested in joining the next generation of our professional bus drivers by covering the costs of tuition, training, books, fees, and other expenses associated with a Class “B” commercial driver’s license (CDL) permit course. Olive-Harvey College, Harper College, Elgin Community College, South Suburban College, Joliet Junior College, Prairie State University, Triton College, College of Lake County and Moraine Valley Community College have all partnered with Pace to offer these courses, which serve as a pathway to meaningful careers in public transportation.
Pace and our college partners offer a customized two-week course to assist qualified applicants in obtaining their CDL permit. Interested applicants begin by attending a three-hour pre-hire event to meet with Pace staff and complete a screening process which includes application completion, an assessment questionnaire, and a background check. All candidates must bring a valid Illinois driver’s license and a Court Purpose DMV or Secretary of State Motor Vehicle Report (MVR, also called “Driving Record Abstract” in Illinois) with a good 5-year driving record.
Meet with Pace Bus at any of the events listed below and learn more about becoming a professional bus operator. Attendees can complete a screening process and qualified candidates will be enrolled in a FREE two-week Class “B” commercial driver’s license (CDL) permit course.
Get hired immediately for available bus operator positions at Pace Bus "Hire-on-the-Spot" events!
At these events, prospective employees will learn more about Pace, complete applications for open positions, and can take a pre-employment assessment for professional bus operator (driver) positions. As part of their ongoing efforts to remove financial barriers for the next generation of professional bus drivers, Pace provides FREE Class “B” commercial driver’s license (CDL) permit courses and paid training for bus operators and mechanics.
