Pace releases Final 2016 budget

Passengers at Bus stop

Pace is pleased to announce a stable final budget for 2016. The agency held a series of 13 public hearings throughout the region, and the board members and staff are grateful to everyone who participated in the public hearing process.

The final budget is balanced and includes $7.6 million of new service, including $6.6 million for a full year of service implemented in late 2015 and an additional $1 million of new service to begin in late 2016.

Included in the budget is a $0.25 fare increase impacting only fixed route customers who pay with cash- customers using Ventra would not be affected. The higher cash fare, which would bring Pace in line with similar policies in place for several years at other transit and transportation agencies in the region, encourages the use of Ventra versus cash in order to mitigate the costs associated with collecting and handling cash.

Ventra offers a number of money-saving benefits to customers, including a secure, account-based system and the ability to buy passes and $0.25 transfer fares when changing routes.

The Regional ADA Paratransit Budget is also balanced and maintains current service levels and fares, although the status of an $8.5 million state grant for paratransit operations received annually since 2009 has not been determined. If that funding is not received, a fare increase could be proposed at a later date.

The booklet detailing Pace′s 2016 final budget is now available for download.
