Pace and IDOT partner to offer Bus on Shoulder
on Edens (I-94)
Pace and the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will again partner
to improve commutes and reduce congestion in the Chicagoland area. We are pleased
to announce a 2-year demonstration of bus-on-shoulder service on the 13-mile
stretch of the Edens Expressway (I-94) from Foster Avenue to Lake Cook Road.
Since Pace introduced shoulder riding on I-55 in late 2011, on time performance
for routes on the corridor has improved dramatically, from about 65% to over
90%. Ridership has more than quadrupled in the corridor, proving that reliability
plays a significant role in attracting and retaining riders. While ridership
may not increase at those levels on the Edens, Pace does expect to see ridership
growth and improved schedule reliability.
Pace will kick-off bus on shoulders operations on the Edens with existing
routes 620 (connects the CTA Dempster Station in Skokie and Allstate′s Northbrook
campus) and 626 (connects the CTA Dempster Station in Skokie and various commercial
and business centers in Northbrook, Deerfield, Riverwoods, Buffalo Grove, and
Lincolnshire). Read more here.
Pace expands Call-n-Ride offerings and launches online reservations
In October 2016, the latest Pace Call-n-Ride service debuted in the Naperville/Aurora
area. It serves the Fox Valley Mall and the bustling IL-59 retail corridor,
as well at the Route 59 Metra Station. This newest offering is the tenth Call-n-Ride
service Pace has implemented in the past decade.

I-90 SmartRoad and Flex Lane
As part of the I-90 Rebuilding and Widening Project, the entire I-90 corridor
has been reconstructed to include flexible infrastructure to enable the Tollway
to add new "smart" features as needed or as they become available
in the years to come. The new I-90 SmartRoad will feature integrated transit
with Pace, which will create the option for Pace buses to travel in the new
Flex Lanes (inside lanes and shoulders) on I-90 to route around congestion
and provide more reliable service.
Making Progress on Pulse Rapid Transit Service
Pulse is a rapid transit service that will provide faster trips and better
amenities for thousands of customers in Chicago and nearby suburbs. After several
public meetings and input from a local advisory group, the engineering of the
Pulse Milwaukee Line is complete and Pace has gone out to bid for construction
of that project.
