This innovative new approach to local public transit service is a reservation-based, curb-to-curb service that picks up riders and takes them anywhere within a designated geographic service area. This service differs from other curb-to-curb service, like Dial-a-Ride and ADA Paratransit service, because it is always open to the general public, consumers can reserve same day service if space is available and the fare is set by Pace.

Riders can travel to many destinations, including work, school, shopping, medical offices or to other Pace routes as long as these destinations are within the geographic boundaries of the service area. Riders travel on anywhere in the designated service area on the small, wheelchair-accessible Call-n-Ride bus. The vehicle is recognizable with its large green phone number and logo. Trip reservations are granted on a first come, first served basis.

How to use Call-n-Ride

First, make sure your pick-up and drop-off locations are within the service area by reviewing the Call-n-Ride map (West Joliet Call-n-Ride Map, Round Lake Area map).

Call the designated Call-n-Ride phone number for your area. This number goes directly to the driver's cell phone. The driver takes reservations from 6:00am to 6:15pm. If the driver does not answer during those hours, leave a voicemail with your call-back number and you will be called back soon. Please note that you must call between 6:00am and 6:15pm to make a reservation.

For same-day service, call at least one hour in advance. You can also schedule trips up to 24 hours in advance. Recurring trips (same days and times) may be scheduled in advance with the Call-n-Ride driver as a "subscription trip" (see Subscription rides section).

When scheduling your trip, provide your name, date of travel, pick-up location, destination and desired arrival time. The driver will inform you of your expected pick-up time. Please be ready at least fifteen minutes before your scheduled pick-up time. The driver does not wait at the pickup location for those passengers who are not ready to board

Fares, Passes and Transfers

The fare for the service is $1.75 per one-way ride, which is the same fare as the local Pace fixed routes. A drop box for cash fares is installed on the vehicle. Exact fare is required; the driver does not make change. Most passes can also be used if they are date-stamped.

Acceptable passes:

You may purchase these passes (except the Pace/Metra Plus Bus, Pace One-Day Pass or Pace One-Ride Page ) in our Online Store, at certain sales centers, or through the Pace Ticket-By-Mail Program. The Pace/Metra PlusBus sticker may be purchased at wherever Metra Monthly Passes are sold.

The passes not allowed include the Chicago Card, the Transit Card, the Magnetic 10-Ride Plus Pass and other stored value cards. These passes cannot be accepted because the Call-n-Ride vehicle does not have an electronic farebox.

If you want to transfer to another Pace route, request a transfer from the driver when you board.. That card will be valid on any other Pace bus route for two hours.

Since the Call-n-Ride is not a fixed route service, there are no reduced fares or free rides for seniors, Circuit Permit holders, or those with the RTA Reduced Fare ID cards. However, law enforcement officers and firefighters in uniform or presenting a badge and uniformed military personnel will ride for free on the Call-n-Ride. Additionally, free rides are permitted for up to two children under 7 years of age when accompanied by a fare-paying adult.

Other info

Reservations for rides are granted on a first come, first served basis, and pick-ups and drop-offs will take place in the most efficient order geographically. The bus driver has the final say on the order in which passengers are served.

If you make a reservation but later determine that you need to cancel, please do so immediately. Drivers do make record of passengers who reserve a trip but are not available for pick-up at the assigned time. Passengers who are recorded as "no-shows" multiple times will be prohibited from using the service in the future. Please be ready at least fifteen minutes before your scheduled pick-up time. The driver does not wait at the pickup location for those passengers who are not ready to board.

Call-n-Ride is a "shared ride" service, so there will be other passengers in the vehicle at the same time as you. Various passengers' destinations may not be directly in line with yours, so your patience is requested as the driver attempts to serve all destinations in a logical manner.
