Pace Celebrates 40th Anniversary of Earth Day
Studies have repeatedly shown that those who commute by driving alone waste
thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours each year while dealing with traffic
congestion. The cumulative effect on the region drives up the amount of lost time
and money each year, and also has a major impact on air quality because of the
emissions released by the cars clogging our highways and roads.
Reducing traffic and improving the quality of our community’s environment are
some of Pace’s top priorities. By providing quality public transportation options,
Pace can help residents of Northeastern Illinois reduce their carbon footprint,
protect the environment for present and future generations, and conserve natural
resources. In fact, Pace’s family of transit services already removes more than
100,000 cars from our roadways every day.
In addition to giving commuters a viable alternative to driving alone, Pace benefits
the environment in numerous ways, including the use of ultra-low sulfur diesel
fuels combined with particle filters retrofitted to bus exhaust systems to reduce
the amount of pollutants released into the air. Pace recycles its used tires and
engine fluids- which are changed regularly to ensure vehicles operate at peak
efficiency. These examples, along with many others, show the direct positive impact
Pace has on the environment.
Fixed route bus service or ADA paratransit service may not be available to or
feasible for everyone in northeastern Illinois, so the Pace Rideshare program
combines the Vanpool Incentive Program with carpool administration to offer the
access and flexibility that have made Pace’s VIP a national leader.
Whether your motivation is to save money, save the planet, or both- Pace has the
service options to help make residents of Northeastern Illinois less reliant on
cars. Visit Pace’s new web page to learn
more about local and global benefits of public transportation. .
